Activities

Waterway Surveys

Waterway surveys and the preparation of technical documentation establish the condition of the fairway and riverbed. The collected data support the preparation of geodetic and technical information, technical reports, designs and studies.

Underwater surveys are generally carried out within the fairway and include:

Regular Underwater Surveys

The Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure (MMPI) carries out regular surveys during patrols to check fairway dimensions, identify critical sections and determine the positions of navigation marks. Findings are submitted to the competent navigation safety authorities through patrol reports.

Detailed Underwater Surveys

Detailed surveys of critical sections examine riverbed morphology for technical reports and design work. Depending on the purpose, surveys cover cross-sections and intermediate cross-sections or the entire bed surface of the selected river section.

Annual Underwater Surveys

Annual surveys monitor navigability and changes in the riverbed. The processed data are used for navigability reports, updates to waterway marking documentation and the planning of improvement and maintenance works.

Fairway Marking

Marking forms part of technical maintenance under the responsibility of MMPI. It includes installing, replacing, restoring and maintaining floating and bank-side navigation marks, as well as checking their condition and visibility.

On border sections, activities are coordinated with the competent authorities of neighbouring countries.
