"Preparing FAIRway 2 works in the Rhine Danube Corridor"

The project "Preparing FAIRway 2 works in the Rhine-Danube Corridor" cost amount is more than 1.38 million euro (for Croatian partner), is co-financed by the European Union, and includes monitoring of parameters relevant for waterway maintenance, inventory of biodiversity components in the common section of the Danube River, modeling and multi-criteria analysis (MCA) of the same section, further development of the WAMOS system and connecting key stakeholders, as well as analyzing moorings on the Danube River and its navigable tributaries. The project started in July 2020 and will last until the end of December 2024, and the project partners, in addition to the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure (MMPI), are the Austrian Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology, Austrian Waterways Company via donau, Croatian Port Authority Vukovar and the Serbian Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure (MGSI). The Austrian Waterway Company via donau and the Croatian Port Authority Vukovar are also participating in the project as the implementing bodies.

During the project implementation, relevant hydrological, hydraulic and morphological data will be collected and an inventory of biodiversity components will be made on the common Croatian-Serbian part of the Danube River, and the collected data will contribute to defining conservation objectives for river basin management plans in Croatia in accordance with European Union directives and guidelines.

The overall objective of monitoring the state of the Danube River is to provide the basis for a joint strategy and activities of Croatia and Serbia for the purpose of maintaining the Danube as an important international waterway in a manner that will not endanger ecosystems and their biodiversity.
